Disability & Dyslexia

Brunel’s Disability and Dyslexia Service gives confidential advice and support to disabled students. This includes students with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, mental health conditions, mobility and sensory impairments and medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, arthritis and sickle cell.

Students and staff work together to organise support. Details are only ever passed on with students’ consent and then only to make sure their needs are met.

The type of support depends on individual needs but may include:

  • Extra time in exams
  • Extended library loans
  • Help with applying for Disabled Students’ Allowances
  • Dyslexia screenings and full diagnostic assessments
  • Note takers, communicators and other support workers
  • Specialist one-to-one dyslexia tuition
  • Loan of equipment such as digital recorders for recording lectures
  • Support on placement
