Activities and events

The Magna Carta Institute engages with a wide range of individuals and organisations, and undertakes a variety of research, dissemination and collaborative activities.

The Magna Carta Institute Annual Lecture

The Magna Carta Institute's first annual lecture was delivered by the Rt. Hon Jack Straw MP. The Lecture entitled Constitutional Change and Parliamentary Democracy covered democratic issues nationally and internationally.

The second annual lecture was delivered by Lord David Steel. In his lecture, Lord Steel appealed for the European Union to become more involved with the Middle East peace process.

Symposia and Events

The Institute runs high profile events to promote close engagement and informed debate between a broad range of organisations, institutions and interested parties. Recent events have included briefing sessions on the 2010 General Election and the first year of the coalition government, as well as a major symposium on multiculturalism.

Influence and Publications

The Institute’s research seeks to influence and provide enhanced understanding of key debates and policies. Many academics within the Institute hold positions of influence as advisors to government, industry and other public and private bodies. A variety of publications – from research documents and government reports, to academic books and press articles – disseminate the Institute’s research to a wide audience.
