Magna Carta Institute Plays Key Role in Bhikhu Parekh Symposium on Multiculturalism
The Bhikhu Parekh Symposium on Multiculturalism brought together many of the best scholars in the world on multiculturalism, parliamentarians as well as public intellectuals. The symposium marked the scholarship and public engagement of Lord Professor Bhikhu Parekh FBA by discussing new, topical, controversial and philosophically challenging areas of multiculturalism.
Over two days, new research was presented that discussed what full inclusion into a culturally diverse society might be, whether democracy and multiculturalism are antithetical and if so how can they be reconciled, whether European models of secularism can learn something from elsewhere and so on.
The papers presented and discussed will be combined with others in a volume that the editors, Dr Varun Uberoi, Professor Tariq Modood and Professor Raymond Plant will edit.
