Afsar, Financial Mathematics BSc
I was attracted to Brunel University London after hearing about the campus atmosphere. I have a growing passion for finance after studying Accounting and Economics A-levels, which attracted me to this course. I liked the mixture of coursework, exams, practical assessment, group projects and class tests.
The facilities at Brunel are brilliant, especially the 24 hour availability of the computer rooms. The lecturers are very friendly and I get along with them very well – they give me valuable guidance.
My placement was in the finance department of a manufacturing company and the experience was incredible. I met new people and gained many vital skills that I can use in the future. I genuinely think it was one of the most valuable experiences I have had in my life so far.
The subject of my final year project was ‘Dynamic Models of Stock Volatility’, which involved learning about the role mathematics plays in finance. I learnt how important it is to forecast risk using dynamic models.
I am currently applying for jobs and have a few interviews. I plan to get into a finance career and am considering doing a Master’s in Finance or Economics.
