Recruitment to health research studies can be a challenge for a number of reasons including the diffiulties in conducting feasibility and identifying patients who fit study criteria and would like to take part in research. This is particularly relevant to studies seeking to recruit older adults and people with long term conditions who may not readily identify with participating in research.
Imperial College Health Partners is launching a 'consent to contact' initiative called 'Discover'. This initiative aims to give members of the public the opportunity to volunteer to participate in research by joining the Discover Register. Researchers will be able to run feasibility for studies, and also following ethics approval be able to apply for use of the Discover Register to identify people who fit their study criteria and have expressed an interest in participating in research studies. This will radically change and improve the way research is delivered in North West London, bringing efficiency into the process and ensuring recruitment targets are met.
Jess Henderson joined Imperial College Health Partners in January 2015 as an Innovation Delivery Lead. Within her current remit she leads the Research and Neuro-rehabilitation Work streams on behalf of the Partnership.
