Conference, Newton Room, Hamilton Centre, Brunel University London
In the aftermath of the financial crisis an increasing number of consumers in the EU are facing extreme debt problems, due to excessive lending. One in nine people across the EU are unable to repay their debts. (source: Eurostat) This one day conference addresses these debt problems, by examining the current situation of consumer over-indebtedness, responsible lending and personal insolvency in the UK, Germany, Italy and Greece. The aim of the conference is to explore and debate if there is a need to reform EU legislation to better protect consumers in financial difficulty and to achieve integration of EU retail financial markets.
