Brunel will celebrate Brain Awareness Week on Monday 11 March with a free, open-invitation public event on campus.
Brain Awareness Week, an initiative of the Dana Foundation, is an international campaign to increase public awareness about the progress and benefits of brain research. This is the third year that Brunel has contributed to the event, and for 2013 the University will run a series of short talks, poster presentations and demonstrations designed to promote brain health and showcase Brunel's own contributions to neuroscience research.

Staff from across the University will contribute to a wide-ranging, accessible and engaging programme covering a variety of topics from psychology and neuroscience, and led by keynote speaker Professor Sophie Scott from UCL's Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience. All staff and students are welcome to attend any or all of the talks, to find out more about the many facets and functions of the brain.

Professor Scott is Head of UCL's Speech Communication Laboratory and will conclude the event by discussing her work on the neural basis of human speech processing, from 5-6pm in the Darwin Room, followed by a wine and cheese reception.

The event is jointly organised by Dr Alex Nowicky from the School of Health Sciences and Social Care, as well as Dr Adrian Williams and Dr Andrew Parton from the School of Social Sciences.
