Designer night owls' 24-hour marathon

More than 200 Brunel University London design students worked around the 24-hour clock in the second, student-led, Made in Brunel 24 Hour Design Challenge.

Facing them were 18 briefs from a glittering array of companies from Rolls Royce and Chanel, to Lego and the Early Learning Centre.

Made in Brunel Director and product design student Alex Millington said: “The 24-hour challenge is not an academic exercise. Each brief was a real one from the companies involved and the concepts we came up with will be fed back to them as they have commercial value.”

Alex (pictured) is now in his final year after returning from a year-long placement with Lego in Denmark. A team of students worked on a brief from the toy giant during the marathon session examining how the small plastic bricks might join the “Internet of Things”.
