Funding boost on back of research excellence

Brunel’s strong showing in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) means a more than £600,000 funding boost in 2015-16 from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

Welcoming the news, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Geoff Rodgers, said: “Once more we are bucking the sector trend as we now enjoy the 31st largest grant of any higher education institution.

“This mainstream quality-related research funding increase is particularly important to support post-graduate and early years researchers and for us to able to direct substantial sums into areas that we as a university regard as crucial.

“Overall HEFCE have awarded us a seven per cent increase which is a very pleasing reward for all the hard work that went into our successful REF submission.”
