New statue of Isambard Kingdom Brunel to be unveiled at Brunel University

Isabella Thomas will unveil the statue by sculptor Anthony Stones to commemorate the bicentenary of Brunel's birth; the date, July 6, is also Brunel University's Charter Day, the 40th anniversary of its Royal Charter.

The deputy director of the Brunel University Brunel Arts, Alan Bennett, said: “Anthony Stones went to much trouble to research his subject. We are extremely pleased with the result.“

Guests of honour at the unveiling will include the sculptor, four people who have buildings on the campus named after them and a representative of the Brunel statue's sponsor from China.
