Striking sculpture marks special moment in history

Future generations of students will be encouraged to connect with a special moment in Brunel’s history by linking hands with a new and striking sculpted metal structure on campus.

The Connect sculpture is the winning design from a competition run on campus and within the local community to celebrate and commemorate Brunel’s 50th anniversary year.

Submitted by a team of Master’s students from Brunel’s Digital Design and Branding course -  Maria Celina Gallo, Huda Al-Nabhan ,Abdurrahman Ozdemir, Ghinwa Sbiai and Yiqing Zheng - the sculpture represents a group of five people standing in a circle, with space for visitors to step in and link hands, celebrating our unique campus community and reflecting upon the university’s ethos of inclusivity.

The design, which was sponsored by Brunel’s industry partner Constellium, was turned from concept into reality by specialist effects and models company Artem.

It is hoped that current and future students and visitors will interact with the aluminium structure, which stands under a canopy of trees by the Arts Centre green, enabling it to be viewed in the changing seasons and under different light conditions.
