Plastics in our oceans - film's focus can raise public perception

Plastic pollution film game-changer
A project to investigate how plastic enters the environment has resulted in a feature documentary A Plastic Ocean, which aims to raise public awareness of the problem of polluting our seas.

The film, created by former BBC Blue Planet producer Jo Ruxton, benefitted from the advice of Brunel's Director of the Institute of Environment, Health and Societies, Professor Sue Jobling, who is pursuing the creation of an inter-disciplinary plastic oceans research hub at Brunel to further the cause.

Here, Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Communications Dr Lesley Henderson, who is exploring how messages about the risk to human health from microplastics are presented in the media, interviews the producer for The Conversation.
