Natalie Middleton Is A Winner
05 April 2005 Download this press release Local Girl Wins Prestigious International Scholarship UXBRIDGE, 5 April 2005 - Post graduate student, Natalie Middleton of East Kilbride, has beaten off global competition to win the prestigious 2005 American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) International Scholar Award. Her prize includes funding to attend the University of Colorado, Boulder for two months to work with a renowned physiologist plus an all expenses paid trip to attend and present at the ACSM International Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in May. Natalie is currently studying for a PhD at Brunel University’s School of Sport and Education under the supervision of Dr. Rob Shave and is conducting research into cardiac fatigue following prolonged exercise. With a focus on the impact of marathon running on the heart, Natalie and Dr. Shave’s research group are currently examining a group of participants undertaking this year’s Flora London Marathon. Commenting on her success, Natalie said, “This is an amazing opportunity for me. I was keen to present my research at the Annual Conference for the American College of Sports Medicine in order to gain experience in presenting to an international audience, and to meet top researchers in the field. “At the University of Colorado I will be working with one of the world leaders in cardiovascular physiology and so am hoping to learn new techniques, which I can apply to my PhD.” Natalie’s supervisor, commented, “Natalie’s hard work and enthusiasm makes her a worthy winner of this highly prestigious scholarship, I have no doubt that this is only the start of Natalie’s success in the world of Sport Science.” Notes to Editors Caption: Natalie Middleton: award to investigate cardiac fatigue |
