Kith and Kids- Weekend Club Autism Support Volunteer

Details of the Charity:

Kith & Kids’ aim is to empower families who have a son or daughter with a learning disability or autism (many also have a physical or sensory disability) to overcome their social exclusion. Founded over 40 years ago by just two sets of parents, we have grown and adapted over the years to the changing needs of families whilst maintaining the quality of our services.

Throughout the year we provide a variety of volunteer-supported projects and services, offering opportunities to learn new skills, make friends, go out and have fun. The person with a disability being the focus of our activities, we design individual needs based projects and services that provide him or her with much needed social interaction and a sense of “normal” life that most of us take for granted.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

Our ultimate aim at a Kith & Kids’ club is that everybody has lots of fun in an environment in which our members feel safe and relaxed and are able to fully express themselves. We aim that our members receive 2:1 volunteer support.  This helps ensure that the sessions have lots of energy and enthusiasm.  It also gives new volunteers a chance to learn further support tips from experienced volunteers.

Our weekend clubs also allows our members to develop key skills and relationships in a fun, friendly and safe setting that is individually centred to their needs.

Workshops include music therapy, drama, arts & crafts, sports & games and much more. We even enjoy trips out!  Recently groups have attended swimming, museums, crazy golf and bowling.

Our volunteers play a hugely vital role in supporting our members to develop social skills that can be transferred to their day-to-day lives!

To get involved, come and join us for some training workshops which include, Autism Awareness, Communication, Breaking Down Skills, Creativity & Participation, Epilepsy and much more!   Volunteers must attend at least two training days and complete a DBS form before they begin volunteering.
