Summary

Daniel is a Chartered Psychologist and a Senior Lecturer in Social Psychology. Daniel’s research focuses on understanding the development and maintenance of (un)healthy and (in)effective relationships in sport. His research was fundamental in the development of the International Safeguards for Children in Sport, which are now endorsed by over 80 organisations around the world. He makes regular contributions to national and international media on issues related to safeguarding in sport. Daniel’s research has been funded by The Football Association, the International Tennis Federation, the Rugby Football Union, the Daiwa Foundation, the European Commission and the Oak Foundation.

Daniel leads the Brunel International Research Network for Athlete Welfare (BIRNAW). He is a member of the Child Protection in Sport Unit’s Research Evidence and Advisory Group, the Safeguarding Sport Partnership and the International Safeguards Working Group.

Daniel joined Brunel University London as a Lecturer in Youth Sport in September 2008. He has been awarded a PGCHE (Brunel University London, July 2010), PhD (Loughborough University, October 2008), MSc in Applied Psychology (Cranfield University, October, 2002) and a BSc in Social Psychology (Loughborough University, July, 2000). He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2014.

Responsibility

As the Associate Dean Student Experience, Daniel oversees the implementation of policies and procedures related to the personal and academic development, as well as the pastoral care, of all students in the College of health and Life Sciences.
