Join our Community - Brunel is a modern campus university located just a tube journey from central London. Our active student societies enjoy departmental support for events and enrichment of the student experience. Our highly qualified and friendly staff are world class scholars as well as highly committed and skilled teachers. During your first year, in order to ease your adjustment to university life, you will be assigned a personal tutor –  your tutorial leader and your main point of contact with the department. Students join us from all parts of the UK as well as from Europe and the wider world and rate us highly in the National Student Survey.

Focus on Modern history – We are one of very few universities in the UK to focus exclusively on modern history. Our innovative programme specializes in the making of the modern world. This is explored through political, social, and cultural angles. Our new BA in military & international history offers a sharper focus upon the modern history of armed conflict and diplomacy for those who wish to concentrate on those aspects.

Your Choice Matters - After a first year, which provides the bedrock of the programme, you will be able to choose a focused or broad approach to several streams of study. These include: international history, intellectual history, British and Commonwealth History, European history and/or American history. Our combined degrees, including politics & history, offer even broader choice for topics which intersect history.

You will enjoy our expertise & research-driven teaching - Brunel has a world-renowned specialism in intelligence studies and military history. We also have expertise in the history of the Middle East, Europe's borderlands, conflict in Africa and the European settlement of Australia. Our teaching is driven by cutting-edge research, published in the best journals and the top university presses, so students will develop their critical analytic skills based upon access to the very latest research from the people who have created it.

Teaching Methods -Through lectures, seminars, tutor groups, and personal tutorials, we train you to research complex problems, analyse the evidence, and clearly communicate your findings. Our unique personal tutorials for first year students will equip you with key foundational university skills, preparing you for the remainder of your degree and life after university. All feedback is provided through face-to-face meetings with your tutor, ensuring you an opportunity to improve your skills. At Brunel, everyone has the chance to discover their highest potential.
