Dr Shehan Lowe received a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in computer science and software engineering from Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia, in 2008, and the M.Sc. degree in electrical and network engineering from University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, U.K., in 2012. He holds a Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Brunel University, London U.K., where he researched on ultrasonic guided waves for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) applications.
He commenced his career in the field of NDT by joining the Integrity Management Group of TWI Ltd, Cambridge as a Research Engineer in 2012. He is currently working as a Research Fellow at Brunel Innovation Centre (BIC), Cambridge. Projects involved in BIC are as follow;
- Continuous structural condition tank integrity monitoring of above ground storage tanks (SafeAST), funded by EC Horizon2020-FTI.
- High temperature inspection & cleaning by advanced ultrasonics for effective maintenance and management of oil & gas offshore production subsea & topside operating pipelines and vessels (HiTClean), funded by InnovateUK.
- Guided wave monitoring tool (iPerm), funded by EC Horizon2020-FTI.
His research is focused on finite element methods and signal processing on Ultrasonic Guided Waves (UGW). His research interests are to develop UGW sensors to achieve higher flaw sensitivity, UGW energy focusing and ultrasonic cleaning using high power transducers. He has published over 10 research articles in national/international journals and conferences. Since 2014, he is serving as a reviewer for IEEE Sensor Journal, NDT&E and Insight Journal.
