Project description

Research in conjunction with Network Rail to understand the influence of uncertainty in predicting the stress state and fatigue failure for the Overhead Line Environment (OLE). Uncertainties include manufacture/installation procedure, boundary conditions & loading.
This challenging dynamic problem required high fidelity models of line sections (where components were scanned to determine manufacturing tolerances), coupled with beam elements to extend the domain size to understand the stress state in the wire due to a moving pantograph.Railway project
