Project description

Design for crash on water is required as part of the certification of transport aircraft and rotorcraft. Innovative aircraft designs must demonstrate that they provide equal or enhanced safety over current aircraft. Analysis methods capable of predicting airframe response to water impact are required for cost and time effective design.

Prediction of full scale helicopter structural response, results show good correlation with experiment for overall airframe behaviour.

Analysis of fixed wing ditching is challenging due to high speed water flow and the domain size.


The same modelling technology can be applied to other problems including extreme wave impact and sloshing.
