Judith Harwin is Professor of Social Work at Brunel University and directs the Brunel Interdisciplinary Child and Youth Focused Research Centre. Her research interests and publications focus on vulnerable children and families, evaluation of policy and practice. She has a particular interest in outcomes for children in public care, parental substance misuse, child welfare and care planning.
 
She is a member of an EU seventeen country study of children whose parents misuse alcohol (2007-2010) with particular reference to health impacts.
 
She is a member of the London Family Justice Council and the BAAF research advisory group. She has undertaken research and consultancy for UNICEF, UNESCO, the EU and World Bank.
