Highlights by School
Across the University, the proportion of Brunel academics undertaking research of international quality is over four-fifths of those submitted. This is especially exciting when taken alongside the huge numbers of academics we included in RAE2008 – 87% of our entire academic staff.
This represents a 59% increase – more than four times the sector average – over the numbers we entered into RAE2001.
On top of this, we are ranked in the top 10 by Research Power in five Units of Assessment (UoA), and in the top 10 by Grade Point Average (GPA) in three UoAs. Our overall GPA has risen to 2.32 from 2.13 in 2001. Of particular note, in terms of standing of international excellence, are HERG (65%), Applied Mathematics (60%) and Economics (60%).
The University can also boast a sector-topping 21% of Early Career Researchers (staff in the first three years of their academic career) in its total. Half of the staff submitted into the Art and Design and Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences UoAs fell into this category.
