New Route PhD - Brunel Business School
Business and Management
Research in business is important to the process of wealth creation and the quality of life and has been identified by organisations such as the UK Economic and Social Research Council as an area in which there is a shortage of well qualified and trained researchers. In addition, a research degree in business and management is increasingly becoming a requirement for those who intend to pursue academic careers in higher education, and is also relevant to those already in service who wish to develop their careers through undertaking research. A growing number of employers value the training and critical thinking, both in developing projects and ideas and in challenging assumptions and arguments that a research training in management studies offers.
BBS academic staff have teaching and research interests across a range of management and organizational areas, including:
- Knowledge Management
- Sustainable Development
- Entrepreneurship
- Enterprise
- Small Business
- Business Ethics
- Human Resource Management
- Gender and Management
- Computing and Business
- Marketing
- The Management of Emotions and Emotional Labour
Brunel Business School (BBS) therefore provides the focus for the University's education, research and consultative work on business and management subjects. BBS is a vibrant, enthusiastic and highly cosmopolitan academic arena, with a body of academic staff that has diverse teaching and research interests. In addition BBS has attracted funding from a variety of sources including the European Commission, the ESRC and several training and enterprise councils in London. The academic staff have an impressive publication rate and a growing national and international reputation.
The NewRoutePhD Programme in Business has been established at Brunel to provide a flexible but structured framework of individual research supervision, seminars and taught courses. The aim is to provide students with well grounded research training whilst at the same time adding to the School’s overall purpose of advancing academic knowledge and understanding of management issues, problems and processes and their organisational and societal contexts.
BBS also organises an annual Doctoral Symposium involving a two day event with external speakers and student presentations.
