NSIRC Scholarships:

- MSc Structural Integrity (Asset Reliability Management)

The College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences are offering substantial scholarships for Home, EU and Overseas fee paying students starting the full time or part time MSc in Structural Integrity (Asset Reliability Management), MSc Oil and Gas Engineering or MSc Lightweight Structures and Impact Engineering programme in September.

Applicants who are unsure of their fee status should note Brunel uses the information they have provided in their application form to assess fee status against regulations set by the UK government. For information on these regulations please visit the independent organisation UKCISA’s website.

Scholarship holders may be expected to represent Brunel as ambassadors throughout their time at the University and to participate occasionally in various activities to help promote the University. Activities might involve representing the programme at internal and external marketing and recruitment events, providing testimonials and/or other initiatives as appropriate. Scholarship winners will be contacted by the College or Marketing team as and when participation is required.

In addition, the Course Director will carry out a telephone interview in order to assess suitability for the scholarship. The interview will be used to demonstrate eligibility for a scholarship and will focus on the reasons why the applicant wishes to be awarded a scholarship, what the award would mean for their employability or their country of origin. All other relevant information will be taken from the course application form.

The scholarship will be awarded on a first come, first served basis and once they have all been allocated, the College will put prospective students on a Waitlist.

Deadlines: Applications will be considered until midnight on the 14th June 2024.

Late applications will be considered exceptionally for UK students up until the 01st September 2024 and for International students on a case by case basis.

Eligibility

To be considered for an NSRIC Scholarship an applicant must:

2.1 Apply for and fulfil the entry criteria for admission to the Brunel MSc Structural Integrity (Asset Reliability Management) programme, the MSc Oil and Gas Engineering programme or the MSc Lightweight Structures and Impact Engineering programme.

2.2 Must have an Unconditional or Conditional Firm offer of a place on the MSc Structural Integrity (Asset Reliability Management), MSc Oil and Gas Engineering or MSc Lightweight Structures and Impact Engineering programmes starting in the upcoming September intake.

2.3 Must have a 2.2 UK Honours Degree or International Equivalent.

Those not eligible for this Scholarship:

  • Applicants entering a course with Brunel Pathway College (BPC) or who are progressing to a Brunel course from a BPC course.
  • Applicants who will not commence their course in the upcoming academic year - applicants holding offers for deferred entry will be considered for a scholarship in the year they start their course and not in the year of their course application.

Allocation

3.1 Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria at the time of allocation will be considered for scholarships using the information provided at the time of their course application only and cannot be considered should their circumstances change during the course of their studies. Scholarships cannot be backdated.

3.2 Course applications will be reviewed on a regular basis throughout the year. Applicants must pass a rigorous selection and a transparent evaluation process which includes assessment of their course application as well as a telephone interview conducted by the Course Director(s).

3.3 Scholarships will be awarded provisionally on a first-come-first-served basis, until all the scholarships have been allocated.

3.4 The Course Director(s) will consider eligible applicants for scholarship consideration before making a recommendation to the College.

3.5 The Course Director/NSIRC Administrator will be responsible for initiating and managing all communication with the applicants. They will screen and assess all applications, before carrying out interviews and making a recommendation to the College.

3.6 Scholarship awards will be decided by the Scholarship Panel (Head of Department and Course Directors) and will be responsible for producing a final list for eligible awardees.

3.7 The decision of the Scholarship Allocation Panel is final. The University will not accept any appeals in respect of the decision made by the Panel.

3.8 Scholarships will be allocated provisionally throughout the year depending on scholarship funds available and formally awarded in August for the September intake.

3.9 Any unspent funds may be allocated to students on the basis of need and at the discretion of the College.

Conditions of payment

4.1 Scholarships are awarded for the September entry of the upcoming academic year and cannot be deferred to later months or years of entry. Course applicants who intend to defer their studies will lose any award they have been made and must re-apply for a scholarship in the year they will begin their studies.

4.2 Scholarship awardees will be responsible for paying the remainder of their tuition fees after the scholarship contribution is deducted from the total fees for the academic year.

4.3 The scholarship does not replace the deposit of £5,000. All scholarship winners will need to pay the £5,000 deposit for their course in order to receive an unconditional offer and a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS). The amount of their scholarship will be deducted from the remaining fees. This applies to overseas fee paying students only.

4.4 The fee waiver will only be applied provided the student is fully enrolled at the University on the MSc Structural Integrity (Asset Reliability Management), MSc Oil and Gas Engineering or Lightweight Structures and Impact Engineering programmes, which includes having had their qualifications and other documentation verified and checked, and then completing the University enrolment procedures. This includes holding the correct visa to study, if appropriate.

4.5 The fee waiver will apply in year 1 only of the full-time programme, or for the part time route for a maximum of two years only, split equally across both academic years. Should a student repeat the year or extend their period of study, they will not be supported by additional scholarship payments.

4.6 Awarded scholars are excluded from all other University scholarships and tuition fee waivers except the Postgraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship and Prompt Payment Discount.

The order of discounts will be applied as follows:

  1. Scholarship/bursary fee waiver applied to the full annual tuition fee (if applicable);
  2. 10% Brunel Family Discount applied to the net tuition fee (if applicable);
  3. 15% Graduate discount applied to the net tuition fee (if applicable);
  4. 2% Prompt payment discount applied to the net tuition fee (if applicable).

Further information about tuition fee discounts can be found in the Student Financial Policy.

4.7 Course attendance will be monitored by the NSIRC Administrator. Failure to attend classes will result in the withdrawal of the award. The decision to withdraw on this basis is final.

Withdrawal of a scholarship

5.1 Misleading information: The University reserves the right to withdraw a scholarship from anyone who is found to have misled the University about any aspect of their eligibility and to seek repayment of any monies already paid by appropriate means.

5.2 Mode of Attendance Change: If a student changes their mode of study, from full time to part time or part time to full time, the scholarship may be withdrawn.

5.3 Changing course: If a student transfers to a course outside the MSc Structural Integrity programme, the MSc Oil and Gas Engineering or the MSc Lightweight Structures and Impact Engineering the scholarship will be withdrawn.

5.4 Amendment of Fee Waivers: Fee waivers are applied at the start of the academic year as part/all of a scholarship entitlement and will usually not be amended once the fee waiver has been processed. Any tuition fee liability remaining after fee waivers are applied would therefore be calculated in accordance with the Student Financial Policy.

5.5 Abeyance/Temporary Withdrawal: In the case of withdrawal or abeyance the tuition fee and the fee waiver are calculated in accordance with the Student Financial Policy.

5.6 Suspension of Study: Should a student be suspended for any reason, scholarship payments would be withdrawn and consideration of reinstatement will be dependent on the disciplinary outcome.

5.7 Expulsion: Should a student be expelled for any reason, the scholarship would be withdrawn, and the student will be liable to pay their adjusted tuition fee based on the exclusion date.

5.8 Repeat/Extended Study: Repeat periods of study, and periods of temporary withdrawal that result in extended periods of study, are not supported by additional scholarship payments. Scholarship entitlement is for the maximum duration of each award and entitlement is not extended if overall course duration alters.

5.9 Withdrawal from Study: A student who withdraws from their programme prior to completion and who is in receipt of a scholarship award will not normally be requested to repay scholarship payments made up to the point of withdrawal; however, entitlement to all future scholarship payments cease immediately a student withdraws.

5.10 Withdrawal due to poor attendance: If a scholarship is withdrawn due to non-engagement, the fee waiver will be withdrawn without further notice and the student will be liable for the full course tuition fee.
