Summary
Revd Dr Brian Griffiths. CEng, FIMechE, FIET.
Born in 1945, Brian started his working life in industry. He served a five-year apprenticeship with ICI Ltd, Plastics Division and then continued with them as a manufacturing design engineer. During this time he studied at what was then Hatfield Polytechnic and gained his first degree in mechanical/production engineering. In his mid-twenties, he started his academic career as a research assistant at Brunel University and gained his MSc and PhD. He eventually became a Reader in Manufacturing Engineering. He took early retirement in 2000 but continued in two directions. Not only did he continue his industrial career, running his own small company and doing consultancy but he also trained as an Anglican priest and was ordained in 2005.
Regarding his industrial career, his specialism is manufacturing design. He lectures at Brunel and Wolverhampton Universities, runs seminars and does consultancy work. He also works for the British Standards Institution. He sits on the BSI’s ‘design specification and realisation’ committee and is currently chairman of the ‘Design for Manufacture’ committee. He represents the UK on the ISO ‘Surfaces’ committee. Over the years, he has published 115 papers, two books and three British standards. He holds one patent.
Regarding his church career, he is an assistant vicar in the parish of St Peter’s Iver. He helps pastor church members, conducts baptisms, weddings and funerals and takes services every Sunday. He is the coordinator of the church football activities - there are presently 160 children and young people registered. He is a mentor to a trainee priest and is a member of the Deanery Synod. He is also the ‘Faith Representative’ on the South-Bucks Council’s ‘Strategic Planning Partnership’ - the over-arching committee that oversees the county’s strategic planning activities.
He is married to Jackie and they have three children and four grandchildren.
