Our Undergraduate courses are featured by a number of activities that are summarised at Course Highlights.

The need for systems engineers with knowledge and skills in electronic hardware and software co-design is a key requirement of the industry and for future technological systems progression.

These programmes aim to produce highly qualified engineers who will take up demanding managerial roles within the electrical industry by developing leadership, innovation and creative skills to enable and encourage graduates to follow successful engineering careers, and aspire to senior managerial roles.

By combining individual versatility with highly developed teamwork skills, graduates will be equipped with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the subject, its underlying principles and the ability to apply them to complex sustainable power systems problems.

The courses also provide students with design, analytical and transferable skills required to exploit and lead the dynamic and rapidly expanding technological industries.

Recent graduates have gone on to work for prestigious companies including the BBC, Virgin Airways, Opodo, Philips, Siemens and a variety of design companies.

ECE Graduates

The wired society, intelligent appliances, and the information revolution are phrases we are all used to in describing the increasing integration of electronic and computer technology in our working and personal lives.

ECE Undergraduate StudentsEngineers, technologists and designers are the architects and implementers of this technological revolution and are in very great demand throughout industry, commerce and the public sector. We aim to produce well educated, imaginative and professionally trained engineers and designers who can meet the challenge of rapid technological development.

Our undergraduate courses allow you to specialise so that you can match your studies to your own particular interest, or maintain a broad approach. You can also develop language skills and may have the opportunity to work abroad either as part of your scheme of studies or on placement. We have well established links with organisations in France, Germany and Italy.

ECE Undergraduate StudentsElectronic and Computer Engineering is one of the largest disciplines in the University with over 50 members of staff involved in teaching and research, an undergraduate population of over 800 and a postgraduate population of over 200. Despite our size, there is a relaxed and friendly relationship between students and staff and we take a genuine interest and pride in the success of our students and graduates. This, together with acknowledged high quality teaching and resources, results in an excellent record of employment amongst our graduates.

We benefit from being located near much of the country’s information engineering industry. Our courses and research are aimed squarely at developing the expertise, knowledge and new ideas needed for the information age, and cover the full breadth of electronic, computer and multimedia engineering.
Brunel has consistently been placed in the top three UK universities in the PIP’s annual Graduate Recruiters Survey for electronic engineering.

Electronic Engineering was awarded Grade 5 for its research in the last Research Assessment Exercise.

The Electronic and Computer Engineering discipline is one of the largest in the University, with a portfolio of research contracts totalling £7.5 million, and has strong links with industry.

We have a wide range of research groups, each with a complement of academics and research staff and students. The groups are:

The laboratories are well equipped with an excellent range of facilities to support the research work and courses. We have comprehensive computing resources in addition to those offered centrally by the University. The discipline is particularly fortunate in having extensive gifts of software and hardware to enable it to undertake far-reaching design projects.

Open Days

Brunel's Central Open Days are held in June and September for potential students, family and friends to have a look around. The day includes subject displays, informal lectures and seminars, and tours of the campus with current students. You can also meet staff to discuss course options or admissions, disability and dyslexia support and study skills.

For more information see here.

UCAS Visit Days

UCAS Visit Days run between November and April each year. They include a tour of the campus, a general talk on the University and a talk from a departmental representative. You have the chance to meet academic staff in your chosen subject and to discuss queries. If you are invited for an interview it will usually be held on one of our Visit Days.
