Reconfigurable Computing (RC)
Reconfigurable Computing and Image and Vision Systems research in CESR will focus on pioneering future directions and innovation in artificial vision systems through the integration of image/video processing software and hardware expertise. The research will include the development of a hardware accelerator for image processing algorithms based on matrix computations. Research efforts will be directed towards addressing the problem of processing large matrices using different design methodologies and arithmetic techniques in order to achieve improved area/speed ratios compared to existing systems. Applications that will be addressed are: face recognition for security and video surveillance, 3-D medical image segmentation and registration for tumour definition for radiation therapy planning and cancer diagnosis and information retrieval. We will aim to provide embedded hardware solutions and parallel low power architectures for computer vision applications using reconfigurable hardware.
