PhD Research:

Many medical image segmentation techniques have been employed to facilitate the process of cancer detection. Each process has its pros and cons. The main aim of this research is to enhance the application of some segmentation techniques on medical volumes to make them more accurate and faster in computational time.

3D volume segmentation is the process of partitioning voxels into 3D regions (sub-volumes) that represent meaningful physical entities that are more meaningful and easier to analyze, and usable in future applications. Multi-Resolution Analysis (MRA) allow for the preservation of an image according to certain levels of resolution or blurring. Because of multi-resolution quality, wavelets have been useful in image compression, image de-noising, and image classification.

This research focuses on the implementation of medical volume segmentation techniques. Multi-resolution analysis, including wavelet transform, radon transform, and ridgelet transform have been used for feature extraction and the statistical modelling using hidden Markov models for segmentation. Different types of each transform were implemented depending on the level of the decompositions, filter type and structure, and block size. Interesting and useful conclusions of using 3D MRA for medical volume segmentation have been presented.
