PhD Research Title: Modelling, Performance Analysis and Optimisation of DVB-T2 SISO and SIMO Transmission System Operating With Different Pilot Patterns
In this research we explore the performance of a pilot based channel estimator and equaliser for DVB-T2 for 8 different pilot patterns and develop an adaptive system that uses the pilot pattern that provides the best bit error rate for the radio environment in which the receiver operates. This enhances the performance of current DVB-T2 transmission system. We test our system using different types of channel estimation functions with increasing level of sophistication namely: Linear Interpolation(Step), Linear Interpolation(line order 0,1) and Spline Least Square Best Fit which has been proposed to estimate the channel's frequency response (CFR) between the pilots' location. We provide performance results by producing bit error rate (BER) against SNR graphs for different configurations such as QAM modulation orders, number of sub-carriers and type of pilot patterns for different radio environments. The improvement of the channel estimator to take into account both time selective as well as frequency selective fading time varying nature of the channel and the implementation of channel estimator and equaliser functions for SIMO and other enhancing radio transmission systems will then incorporated within the DVB-T2 Matlab model as future work.
