Happold Brilliant Award
The Happold Trust instituted, in 1996 an annual award, administered by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE). The Happold Brilliant, recognises excellence in the teaching of building services engineering.
The award was the late Ted Happold’s idea. He believed deeply in promoting the excellence of teaching building services engineering, and the contribution that a quality education can bring to the work, values and ideas of the engineers of the future.
The original award itself took the form of a beautiful glass bowl hand engraved to his own design by Roger Rigby. From 2006 a new design has been used. A cheque for £1,000 is also presented to the winning academic institution.
The Happold Trust is a charity set up to promote education, training and research in the construction industry fields of engineering, design, technology and architecture. Ted Happold was founding partner of multi-disciplinary consulting engineers Buro Happold, and was responsible for establishing environmental and building services engineering within the practice. An Honorary Fellow of CIBSE, Ted was an enthusiastic, long term supporter of the Institution.
Buro Happold is a multi-disciplinary international practice of consulting engineers established in 1976 offering building services and environmental engineering, civil and structural engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, quantity surveying, infrastructure and traffic engineering, geotechnical engineering and a range of specialist services.
