250 kW Dynamic Engine Testing Facility

Diagram of the Dynamic Engine Test Facility

Principle

The dynamic engine test stand creates for any given internal combustion engine the effect of a virtual drive train and a virtual driver by means of applying a real-time controlled torque to the engine crankshaft using a powerful electric motor / generator. This dynamic torque corresponds to the torque that the engine would experience when mounted in a driving vehicle.

The motor can act either as a break (negative current) or as a driving motor (positive current).

Application

  • Perform Vehicle Emission Testing without the need of the complete vehicle and expensive chassis dynamometer.
  • "Drive by Wire" a real engine mounted in a virtual vehicle with a virtual driver through a test cycle.
