Saeed Sharif, a final-year NewRoutePHD student at Brunel's School of Engineering and Design, was awarded the prize for best presentation at the recent New Route Conference, held in London at the SOAS Brunei Gallery.

Alongside NewRoutePhD students from universities including Birkbeck, Newcastle and Portsmouth, Saeed gave a fifteen minute presentation on his research, with an additional five minutes for questions. Sharif’s winning presentation, “Positron Emission Tomography Volume Analysis Based on ANN”, focussed on the PET equipment and process as being the most effective for classifying and quantifying tumours, and compared phantom and clinical data sets from an engineering context.

Jennifer Chavanovanich and Muhammad Alam, both first year students in the NewRoutePHD programme, also attended the conference.

The NewRoutePhD programme at Brunel offers a choice of specialisations and flexible modules alongside PhD research, with Graduate School coaching and advisory meetings. As part of the new programme, successful students will receive an Integrated Postgraduate Diploma in addition to the award of a PhD.
