Students with disabilities

Living in campus accommodation at Brunel shouldn't be a problem for anyone, and the following information outlines the services and facilities available to you.

Rooms for disabled students and with wheelchair access

Campus accommodation includes several ground floor ensuite rooms suitable for wheelchair access.

There are also several rooms accessible by lift, which may be suitable for disabled students, but not for wheelchair users. These rooms have wider doors with low-level locks, larger floor space and pull cords in place of light switches. They also have an emergency switch, linked directly to the Residences Office. The adjoining bath or shower rooms have a larger floor space, and the bath, washbasin, mirror, towel rails and shaving light are all at a suitable lower level. Those rooms with showers are adapted so that the shower has a seat and no step.

If you would require other adaptations, please contact the Disability and Dyslexia Service.

Rooms for students with hearing impairments

Rooms can be adapted for those students with a hearing impairment to include a vibrating pillow and a flashing beacon, in case of emergency.

Applying

If you require any of the facilities or services mentioned above within your accommodation, or if you think you would require something that has not been mentioned, please contact the Disability and Dyslexia Service, who will forward your application to us.
