Visiting the Archives
Our Reading Room is open Monday – Thursday, 9.30am to 2.30pm, by appointment only. If you wish to come in to undertake research, please get in touch. Please note that the archives are closed on all public holidays and during other advertised periods of University closure.

All researchers are required to produce proof of identity and will need to complete an application form and undertaking form on their first visit to the Archive.
In line with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Regulations, the general records held in the University Archives are open to the public, unless specific exemptions apply. Records containing personal data may be exempt from disclosure under the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.
We also offer a research service for people unable to visit the Archives in person.
Charges for research service 2016:
£6 for an initial look up, i.e. a person, particular school.
£6 per 30 minutes for more detailed research, time to be capped by you. However, we cannot undertake complex research or data analysis on your behalf. In this case, you are welcome to set up an appointment to visit us.
Further charges for photocopying or scanning may apply – please contact us for details.
We normally try to undertake the research within 2 weeks.
