On Wednesday, 9 November 2011, over 100 research students and members of staff from across the University came to the Hospitality Suite to enjoy an evening reception hosted by the Graduate School.

The reception took place on the evening following the Early Stage Research Module, and provided new research students with an opportunity to meet their peers at all stages of their research.

Senior members of staff, including Brunel's Vice-Principal, Professor Mansoor Sarhadi, also attended to welcome the new students. A welcome address was given by Dr Kate Hone, Director of the Graduate School.

Guests enjoyed live music throughout the evening from a four-piece jazz band, lead by saxophonist Frank Griffith, Director of Performance in the School of Arts.

"It was a really good opportunity for speaking with other colleagues", said Inmaculada Andres, research student in the Wolfson Centre for Materials Processing.

The next social event for all research students will be the Researcher Tea, which will take place on Monday 28 November, from 3pm, in the Postgraduate Common Room.
