Borrowing

How many items can I borrow?

  • Undergraduates may borrow 15 items
  • Taught postgraduates may borrow 15 items
  • Research postgraduates may borrow 20 items
  • Staff may borrow 35 items

Up to three of these items may be overnight loans

How long can I borrow them for?

Coloured stickers are used on books to guide you:

  • Overnight loans - white labels over-printed Overnight - are due for return the following day at 10.00 am
  • 3 day loans - green sticker (one renewal only)
  • 1 week loans - orange/red sticker
  • Long loans - no sticker - the standard loan period is 4 weeks

Long loans are issued for 12 weeks to members of staff and research postgraduates.

Long loans may be recalled if they are requested by another reader. If this happens the Library will e-mail you a new due date. Please remember that fines will be charged if books are not returned by the new due date. Journals and reference books may not be borrowed.

How do I borrow?

Material can be borrowed using the Self Issue machines using your University ID card.

Films and Sound Recordings

DVDs and CDs can also be borrowed using the Self Issue kiosks but the cases will need to be unlocked before you can use them. These items will need to be borrowed, and unlocked, even if you only intend using them in the Library. The unlocking unit is mounted to the left of the Library doors on the way out.
