Renewing
How do I renew material?
If you want to keep the items you have borrowed for longer than they were issued, you can renew them online, by phone, or in person. You cannot renew an item if it has been reserved by another user or if your fines have reached the £15 fine limit. To avoid building up fines, it is a good idea to get into the habit of renewing your items on a regular basis.
If no-one else wants the item(s) you have borrowed and you have not reached the £15 fine limit, you may renew them in any of these ways:
- Online - go to the Library catalogue and log in with your Library card number. Click on ‘My Account’ and then click on ‘Renew My Materials’.
- By telephone - 01895 266141 (available during Library opening hours).
- At the self service kiosks.
- Using BookMyne, our system supplier's mobile app available on Android and iOS platforms.
- Through the Library Facebook page under the "Catalogue and Account" link.
When renewing online or by telephone please keep a note of the new return date. You can always check the due dates of your items through 'My Account' on the Library catalogue.
Please note, you cannot renew via email.
Short loan material
Three day loans: if no one else has reserved the item then you are allowed one renewal.
Overnight loans: these items cannot be renewed.
If no-one else has reserved the item, you can renew using the methods above.
How will I know when my loans are due back?
Receipts
When you borrow material from the self service kiosks always remember to request a receipt. This will show the dates when items are due back.
Courtesy notices
As a reminder, the Library will send an e-mail notice the day before your item(s) are due back. This e-mail reminder is just a courtesy, and should not be relied on. These notices are only sent for week loans or longer. Please regularly check the due dates of your items through 'My Account' on the Library catalogue.
What else can I do?
- If you register your mobile phone number with us then we will send you a text message, as well as the courtesy email referred to above, when your loans are due to be returned.
- In addition you can sign up to Library Elf. This service allows you to decide when reminders will be sent to you and has an RSS option as well as email.
Remember – renew regularly to avoid fines!
