Information for staff
Our aims
The aim of the ASK service is to provide academic skills teaching, support and resources to all Brunel students to enable them to become independent, versatile and active learners. We believe all students benefit from advancing their academic skills and we aim to provide inclusive, accessible and independent learning advice to supplement the advice provided as part of their academic study.
What we can offer you
Academic skills sessions are most effective for students when they are subject specific and curriculum embedded. ASK will endeavour to work with academic staff and departments to enhance their students’ academic skills. This may involve
- Delivering tailored workshop(s), embedded in, or adjacent to, the curriculum
- Providing lesson plans, slides and resources to enhance your workshops
- Recommending or developing online and print resources specific to the needs of your students
- Designing assessment activities and tasks to develop student learning
- Curriculum development advice
If you, or your students, would like us to deliver a session or provide advice and resources for curriculum development then please contact us.
Learn Higher
Brunel was involved in the Learn Higher project which aimed to improve student learning by providing excellent resources to support students' learning development, and through practice-led research into the effective use of those resources. Brunel designed resources for 'Maths and Numeracy' and 'Oral Communication'.
The Learn Higher website contains
- Resources for academic staff to help assess and develop your students' skills
- Interactive video resources to help support academic staff to teach study skills
