Writing and Learning

Workshops

ASK Appointments

During term time you can make an appointment to see an ASK Advisor if you have any questions about your writing or study skills. We are available at the following core times but check the calendar on the day to book and find alternative times:

Monday-Friday 12.00-14.00

Tuesday 17.00-19.00

Advice on writing style and grammar

Submit a 500 word writing sample (login required). We can provide general comments and advice on grammar and style and recommend relevant resources. Please note this is not a proofreading service. We will read up to 500 words of an individual student's piece of work per term. Other conditions apply and are in a downloadable document on our u-Link module.

Maths and Numeracy

Worried by the maths content of your course? Do not leave your problems too late. Come along and see us now.

We offer a range of maths and numeracy support including:

  • Numeracy and elementary mathematics
  • Algebra
  • Linear algebra
  • Real, complex and vector calculus
  • LaTeX and Mathematica software
  • Psychometric tests (see our resources page)

During term-time you can meet with an ASK Advisor at our drop-in. We are avaliable at the following times:

Statistics and SPSS

ASK offers statistics advice to all Brunel University students in addition to what is provided through their normal modules and tutorials. Our support covers:

  • Statistics and probability required for your course

  • Questionnaire design and quantitative analysis

  • Choosing appropriate techniques for exploring, summarising and analysing your data

  • Support for the use of statistical software: SPSS and Excel
