Advanced search
Whilst Summon is a great start to your research, there are circumstances where you may prefer to use our other search tools. For example, to:
- Conduct a more comprehensive search
- Search for Law resources
- Search for more Market Research
- Search for Raw Data
- Consult a specific journal
Under these circumstances, we would recommend you use individual databases designed for these purposes, or our e-journals A-Z listings.
Databases
We have a number of different databases available from our A-Z listing.
A database is usually a collection of e-journals; it allows you to search this collection using keywords in a number of different ways. For example:
| AND | will narrow your search, eg supermarket AND marketing will find articles that include both of these keywords. |
| OR | will broaden your search to results that contain either of the keywords, eg child OR youth |
| quotation marks "" | to search for an exact phrase, eg "acid rain" |
| truncation* | will find all variations of the root part of the word, eg manag* will find manage, management, managing etc |
Searching a number of different databases also ensures you catch results that Summon might have missed.
Other databases contain different types of information such as Market Research and Raw Data. These pages provide further information and advice on the subject.
For more information on using databases effectively, our 1-page guide offers more advice on advanced searching.
