Quick search

The quickest and easiest way to start your search is by using Summon, our one-stop-shop library search tool. Summon will help you find books, journals and more…

Summon Search

Searching by title

Simply enter the title of the book or journal article you need, eg

  • Book title: Cottrell, S. (2008) The study skills handbook, Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan
  • Journal article: Wolfson, S., Wakelin, D., & Lewis, M. (2005). Football supporters’ perceptions of their role in the home advantage. Journal of Sports Sciences, 23(4), 365-374.

TIP: to help reduce the number of results you get, when searching for an exact title, enclose it in quotation marks. Just make sure that your title is correct, eg

Title: “study skills handbook”

Searching by keywords

Alternatively, if you’re looking for material on a particular topic but don’t have any titles, search Summon using keywords that you think best describes what you’re looking for, eg

Keywords: sport psychology

TIP: to help reduce the number of results you get and to make them more specific, add more keywords to describe your topic, eg

Keywords: “sport psychology” motivation

The results

The results will tell what type of resource it is, eg book, e-book, journal article etc.

Online resources will be clearly marked – simply login using your network username and password.

Print resources will give you the shelfmark of its location in the library. For help understanding the shelfmark, see our Shelfmark Guide. Summon is a good way to start your search, but does not search all of the library's e-resources.  For example, if you cannot find the journal article you need, try searching the e-journals A-Z list.  For more help with this, see our Advanced Search page, or see the help details below.
