Book fetching service
You may submit requests for books to be collected from the shelves for you. Requests received before 12.00 (midday) will be available from 12.00 the following day, excluding weekends. We can fetch and hold up to six items at one time, but please ensure that you are able to collect all requested items in one visit. Satisfying these requests depends on the availability of the book(s) in the Library at that time.
Requested books can only be collected from the Help Desk during core hours.

Nominated borrower
You may authorise a nominated person to borrow items on your behalf. The nominated borrower needs to bring personal ID and a letter of authorisation from you in order to register. They may then, on production of their personal ID, borrow items on your behalf. Please speak to a member of Library staff at the Helpdesk if you require this service.
Mediated photocopying
This service, where a member of staff photocopies the items you require on your behalf, is available at the same price as self-service photocopying for disabled Library users.
To request this service, please visit the Library Helpdesk or contact us at library@brunel.ac.uk. The timescale for delivery will be agreed at the time of request. If you are able to reclaim photocopying costs from the DSA, please ensure you obtain a receipt from the money loader machine or a member of Library staff as proof of photocopying.
Please note, items may only be photocopied in accordance with copyright law.
Coloured paper for photocopying
Materials produced by the Library (subject guides, database guides, etc.) can be photocopied onto coloured paper on request. Please speak to a member of Library staff at the Helpdesk, or email library@brunel.ac.uk if you require this service.
Electronic Documents
If you are having difficulty accessing specific online documents from databases or websites, you may request an electronic copy of the article. Please note, this service is only offered when the Library already subscribes to the item in question or the information is freely available on the internet.
To make a request, please contact your School's Subject Liaison Librarian, providing as much information as possible, eg: author, year, article title, journal name, volume and issue, as well as the name of the database, e-resource or website if known. Where PDF versions are unavailable, your Librarian will liaise with you as to the most appropriate electronic format, seeking advice from the Disability and Dyslexia Service if necessary.
Who should I speak to about requesting additional help in the Library?
For additional help on how to access our resources and services, please speak to any member of staff at the Library Helpdesk or contact your Subject Liaison Librarian – this is the librarian for your School whose job is to provide subject focused training and guidance.
Alternatively you may email Jane Rogers or contact her by telephone on 01895 266 160.
What is the physical access to the Library like?
There is sloped access down to the Bannerman Centre ground floor and double automatic doors at the building entrance. Entry to the Library itself is via University card activated turnstiles or a gate for wheelchair users. Every floor is accessible by lift.
Specialist equipment
Several height adjustable tables are located on the ground floor of the Library. There is also a hearing loop at the Helpdesk.
The Disability and Dyslexia service (based in the Bannerman Centre) maintains a list of equipment available throughout the University on its website. A range of equipment, as well as training and support in its use, is provided by the Assistive Technology Centre (ATC) to help you with your studies. The ATC is situated on the third floor of the Bannerman Centre, but please note, there is no direct access to it from the Library.
