Alerting services
You can receive updates about the latest literature in your research field by creating either an e-mail alert or an RSS feed. To create an RSS feed using RefWorks, see the RefWorks: collecting references page. If you create an e-mail alert, you will receive regular e-mails containing new references. Procedures vary by database or database platform, but you always need to register with the database first:
OvidSP databases: AMED and Medline
Web of Knowledge databases: Web of Science
Ebscohost databases: Academic Search Complete, Business Source Premier, CINAHL Plus, GreenFile, Historical Abs, LISTA, MLA, PsycInfo and SportDiscus
- Open one (or more) of the Ebscohost databases
- Link to <Sign in>, near the top right corner of the screen
- Login to Ebscohost (or register if you have not already done so)
- Perform a search
- Link to <Alert/Save/Share>, above the results
- Link to <E-mail Alert>
- Enter your e-mail address
- Select the frequency, e.g. once a month
- Link to the <Save Alert> button
- You should receive an e-mail confirmation that your alert has been successfully created
- To view your existing Ebscohost alerts, link to <Search History> and then <Retrieve Alerts>
Emerald
- Open Emerald
- Link to <Login>, near the top left corner of the screen (or link to <Register> if you have not already done so)
- Login to Emerald
- Perform a search
- Link to <Add Saved Search Alert>, above the results
- Enter an alert name
- Adjust the number of results required (if necessary)
- Link to the <Add> button
IEEE/IET Electronic Library
- Open IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEEE Xplore)
- Link to the <Sign out> button
- Link to <Sign in> (or link to <Register> if you have not already done so)
- Sign in to IEEE/IET Electronic Library
- Perform a search
- Link to <Set Search Alert>, above the results
- Give your search a name
- Link to the <Save> button
- To view your existing IEEE alerts, link to <My Settings\ Saved Searches>
Institute of Physics
- Open Institute of Physics

- Login to Institute of Physics
- Perform a search

ProQuest databases: ABI Inform, British Periodicals, DAAI, Education databases (AUEI, BEI and ERIC), IBSS, IIMP, IIPA and PapersInvited
- Open one (or more) of the ProQuest databases

- Login to ProQuest (or link to <Create a My Research Account>, if you have not already done so)
- Perform a search
- Link to <Create alert>
- Enter a search name
- Select the scheduling and duration, e.g. one year
- Link to the <Create alert> button
- You should receive an e-mail confirmation that your alert has been successfully created
- To view your existing ProQuest alerts, link to <My Research> and then <Alerts>
Sage
- Open Sage
- Link to <Sign In>, near the top of the screen
- Sign in to Sage (or register if you have not already done so)
- Perform a search
- Link to <Save as Alert> in the right hand side column
- To view your existing Sage alerts, link to <View current email Alerts>
Scopus
- Open Scopus

- Login to Scopus
- Perform a search
