Resources for Economics and Finance
Books:
- Print books - the majority of the Economics and Finance books are on the first floor under shelfmarks HB-HC, however, you may also be interested in books at shelfmarks HD-HJ which cover Business, Accounting and Finance. Check the library catalogue for the specific locations
- Electronic books - can be accessed via Summon

Journals:
- Use the databases tab to find e-journal articles and other electronic content
- Print journals can be found on Floor 3
Data Sources:
The library subscribes to Bloomberg, Eikon and Datastream amongst others. The Bloomberg Room is on Floor 3. If you want to use Bloomberg then you need to book a terminal.
Datastream/Eikon rooms are on the Ground Floor. Eikon can also be used in the Bloomberg Room. If you wish to use Datastream or Eikon you will need to book a terminal.

Databases
For a general search across multiple databases, search Summon.
Individual databases offer a more detailed comprehensive search. Those most relevant to your subject area have been selected below. For guidance on more specific types of information, such as Market Research, Raw Data, Standards and Patents, please see the links on our Research page.
Access to these e-resources is restricted to the students and staff of Brunel University for licensing and technical reasons. Some licence agreements may exclude access to databases and their contents from certain countries. ABI Inform
References, and often full text access, to journal articles in business and management, economics and finance, computers, environment, government and law and social issues and policy on the new ProQuest integrated platform (this has the option to search other databases, too).

Contains full text articles from over 2,300 journals covering all business disciplines. Also provides access to market research reports country reports, industry reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses.

Cambridge Journals Online
Cambridge Journals Online provides full text access for over two hundred journals published by Cambridge University Press in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Also available: access to Cambridge Journals Digital Archive (bought by JISC Collections) comprising 171 journals.

Emerald e-Books
Emerald e-Book series offer a breadth of relevant, quality content featuring high impact, topical research in the areas of, Business, Management, Economics and Social Sciences. These comprehensive collections provide access to more than a 1000 volumes across 130 series titles.

FAME
Company and financial data on medium and large UK and Irish businesses. Bankscope, FAME and Osiris all have a similar interface, so once you have familiarised yourself with one, you should be able to use the others.
FT.com
FT.com is an essential source of breaking news, comment, data analysis and research tools. The Financial Times, one of the world’s leading business news and information organisations, provides access to news and analysis covering global business, finance, politics and much more. FT content supports a range of disciplines from accounting and international relations to economics and management. First time users: on campus use the Access Manager pop-up to register for access using your Brunel University email address to create a unique username and password (off campus users should follow this special FT registration link).
IBSS: International Bibliography of the Social Sciences
International Bibliography of the Social Sciences, from 1951 to date on the new ProQuest integrated platform (this has the option to search other databases, too). Coverage includes Anthropology, Sociology, Economics and Politics. Some linked full text is available. Updated weekly.

JSTOR
Archive collections of full text electronic journals from 1880 onwards, always from volume 1, issue 1, and including previous and related titles. The most recently published issues (past 3-5 years) are not available in these collections (unless we hold a current subscription too). The Library subscribes only to the Arts & Sciences I to IX, inclusive, and the Health & General Sciences collections, as well as 19th Century British Pamphlets, a collection, created by RLUK (Research Libraries UK) and the Ireland collection (research materials relating to Ireland, spanning the 18th century to present, provided under the JISC Digitisation Programme). If you have any problem connecting to JSTOR off campus, please use the alternative link below in combination with the AnyConnect VPN Universal service package from the Connect portal.

Full text access to regional, national and international newspapers, business trade journals, company reports and country reports, including Company Dossier. (This database was previously called LexisNexis Business & News).

Osiris
Financial data on international companies, banks and insurance providers. Bankscope, FAME and Osiris all have a similar interface, so once you have familiarised yourself with one, you should be able to use the others.
Oxford English Dictionary
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is an etymological dictionary which is widely acknowledged as the most comprehensive record of the English language, tracing the evolution and use of more than 600,000 words through 3 million quotations. OED Online gives access to latest text of the full Oxford English Dictionary, the Historical Thesaurus of the OED and enable users new ways to explore the English language:
Search for new words by year, decade, or any date range.
Set language in context: search by place, language type, and date to discover the impact of world events.
OED Online is revised and updated at regular intervals and covers British, American, and other varieties of English, and all types of use, from formal to slang.
Oxford Journals
The Oxford Journals collection includes some of the world's most highly cited and prestigious Oxford University Press journals, in a broad range of subject disciplines.

Regional Business News
Provides full text coverage to regional business news press, predominately covering the United States (New York Times, Washington Post, etc.), but also including some sources from the rest of the world such as the Daily Mail, Evening Standard, Le Monde, and Mail on Sunday.

Sage
Access to over 220 e-journals published in collections by Sage, with up to 59 years of backfiles where available. Access to another 189 e-journals from 1999 onwards for the titles not included in the collections. A multidisciplinary database, with particular emphasis on the social sciences.

ScienceDirect
Offers access to the Elsevier digital library, covering over 1800 publications. Most are available in full text after 1995. The collection is updated daily.

Scopus
Scopus is the largest ever bibliographic database and indexes over 14,000 titles from science, technology, medicine and the social sciences. This abstract only database is updated daily. Use Article Linker (AL) to check for full text online sources.

Springer Link
Full text of most of the journals published by Springer-Verlag and Kluwer. For a short while you may also access the "old SpringerLink" from the new Springer Link via the link under the Brunel logo.

UK Data Service (incorporating ESDS)
The UK Data Service is a comprehensive resource funded by the ESRC to support researchers, teachers and policymakers who depend on high-quality social and economic data. Here you will find a single point of access to a wide range of secondary data including large-scale government surveys, international macrodata, business microdata, qualitative studies and census data from 1971 to 2011. You will need to register your Brunel email address before you may log in.
Web of Knowledge
Indexes journals and conference proceedings in the arts and humanities, social science and science and technology, providing abstracts to the majority, from 1970 to date. This abstract only database is updated weekly. Use Article Linker (AL) to check for full text online sources.

British Academy Portal
'British Academy directory of online resources in the humanities and social sciences.' Includes a section entitled 'economics and economic history'.

A good gateway site.
Economics Network
Links to online resources provided by the Higher Education Academy. Includes links to news sources, online blogs, online research and web resource guides.
Europa: summaries of EU Legislation
The “Summaries of EU legislation” website presents the main aspects of European Union (EU) legislation in a concise, easy-to-read and unbiased way. It provides approximately 3 000 summaries of European legislation, divided into 32 subject areas corresponding to the activities of the European Union.
Forbes Financial Glossary
Contains definitions to thousands of financial terms.
Online IMF videos created to help you understand complex current issues, including defining a recessionand the history of the IMF. Access to IMF's journals and databases can be found by searching Summon.
The foremost British gateway of Economics resources. Please note, from July 2011, this page will no longer be updated.
Provides historical exchange rates.

Bank of England
Features information about UK monetary policy, UK financial markets and some statistical data
European Central Bank
Contains documents, speeches and some statistics.
International Monetary Fund
Includes IMF data and statistics, country information and news.
World Bank
Includes a multitude of information including statistics, policy information and news items including the recent G8 summit, climate change and rebuilding Iraq. Subject coverage includes economic development, agriculture, the environment, risk management and international trade.
Treasury:
Link to the UK Government Treasury web site. Includes access to Government reports, economic data and statistics, including a year forecast for the UK economy.
Latest Budget: Full report on the latest budget plus links to useful discussion papers on the UK economy as a whole. Also includes a budget archive going back to 1998.
Research and Open Access - read more
Working Papers, or discussion papers as they are sometimes known, are documents which are a “work in progress”. They are often published as a means of sharing ideas and inviting comment and are often used as a precursor to peer reviewed journal articles. Although they are not the definitive article, they are still at the cutting edge of research.
BURA: BURA is Brunel's repository of research which includes journal articles, PhD theses and lectures.
OpenDOAR: Use this to search research repositories at other institutions, worldwide.

IPSOS MORI:
A leading research organisation which carries out research and polls across the UK.
United Nations Industrial Development Organisation
UNIDO work with developing countries or countries whose economy is in transition. The website provides information on the organisation and latest news. Most of the data needs to be paid for, however some statistics (by country) are available free of charge. (see selected industrial statistics)
Global Health Observatory
Health related statistics compiled by the World Health Organisation including core health indicators from 192 countries and statistics on particular topics including HIV/AIDS, drug information, immunization, health personnel, population, micronutrients, alcohol, maternal mortality, etc. See also the data repository
Yahoo Finance:
Financial news and statistics including historical share prices for the UK and World indices.
