Members of the ORS
Operational Research (also known as Operations Research or Management Science) looks at an organisation's operations and uses mathematical or computer models, or other analytical approaches, to find better ways of doing these operations.
The OR Society, with members in 53 countries, provides training, conferences, publications and information to those working in Operational Research. The Society also provides information about Operational Research to interested members of the general public. The OR Society website: http://www.orsoc.org.uk
Contents of the OR Society Library
The OR Society Library contains over 1500 books and 80 journals. They cover a wide range of OR and statistics topics, including:
- Operational Research
- Statistics
- Management Science
- Market Research
- Logistics
- Industrial Engineering
- Management accounting
The collection includes journals from OR societies around the world, and books covering the history of OR.

Services for OR Society members
OR Society members have external borrowing right to Brunel Library free of charge. This means that you can borrow up to six Semester loans at any one time from the OR Society collection, or the main Brunel collection. Course textbooks (those for Week or 2Week loan, or in the Short Loan Collection) are not eligible to be borrowed.
You can photocopy articles from any of the printed journals held in Brunel Library (subject to copyright law). In addition, Brunel Library provides a document supply service for ORS members. On payment of a fee, we will supply you (by post) with any book, article, conference paper or similar item. Please see the ORS website for further information and to engage this service.
How OR Society members can access these services
At the moment, you must visit the Library to use the journals or borrow books. There are nine self-service photocopy machines where you can photocopy articles.
The first time you visit the Library you will need to bring photographic ID and also proof of your address. You will be given a visitors card, which you should bring on subsequent visits.
Please identify yourself as a member of the OR Society at Library reception.
To photocopy you need to charge your Library borrowing card with money. Photocopies cost 5p per A4 page, or 11p per A3 page.
Commercial researchers are required by law to pay a copyright fee of £9 per article in order to photocopy, in addition to photocopying costs. Non-commercial researchers are allowed under copyright law to make photocopies of articles (subject to restrictions) without payment of this fee.
