How your Placement Officer can help

The PCC has a team of placement officers to assist you and in the autumn term of your second year you will meet the placement officer that is assigned to your school of study (please note that professional courses in the schools of Health Sciences and Social Care and the School of Sport and Education administer placements in the school not by the PCC) Your Placement Officer and School will organise an information session to explain exactly what placement entails, what students have done previously and the types of jobs that you can apply to. All you need to do is be there and ask as many questions as you like!

If you decide to complete a placement you will be given a Placement Registration form, just complete this and hand it in to your Placement Officer in the PCC.

When making applications for placement you’re not alone and your Placement Officer will assist you in putting together your applications. Make use of your Placement Officers expertise in this area. They can help you think of all the skills and experience you have from previous work experience and volunteering that will help your applications stand out from all the others, which will hopefully secure you an interview. Your Placement Officer is also available to help you prepare for interviews such as arranging a mock interview or helping you to think about the types of questions that you may be asked.

Placements are competitive and in many cases can be the same process as a graduate interview. Making applications does require determination; resilience and lots of thought (just like getting a graduate job) about what you are going to do, what skills you want to gain and what you already have that you can bring to a company. If you don’t get the first placement you apply for, don’t worry. Get some feedback and your Placement Officer can help you build on this for the next interview.

Making an appointment to see a Placement Officer couldn’t be easier – just drop in to the PCC and sign up!
