Exploring career options

There are a variety of ways you can research potential careers, one of the best being talking to people who are in the profession. The PCC organises many events throughout the year which give you the opportunity to network with industry professionals right here on campus. If you'd like to get started right now, here are some ideas:

Visit the Placement and Careers Centre library. Our PCC library has reference material and takeaway handouts on:

  • Career decisions
  • What you can do with your degree
  • Occupational information
  • CV examples
  • Interview skills
  • Assessment activities - psychometric tests, presentations
  • Job hunting
  • Working abroad
  • Employer directories and graduate training schemes 

Prospects is a graduate careers website with lots of employer vacancies, information on all types of jobs, job hunting and further study. Use Prospects to:

  • Explore Job Sectors Look at these for an overview of various job areas
  • Look at Options with your subject If you're not sure what you want to do yet, have a look at the Options information for your degree subject
  • Explore types of jobs For each job there is a job description, typical work activities, entry requirements, training, career development and case studies, which are examples of people working in that job, just click on the A-Z for the type of job you want to read about

TotalProfessions.com Explore the Profession Finder with nearly 300 professional bodies to see how these can assist your career, plus sector summaries for many job options and job search facility.
