Coach Development


The Brunel Sport Coach Development programme is open to all Brunel students who are interested in sport and physical activity, and who would like to develop their coaching skills and knowledge. Once you are qualified you will be able to begin using your new skills and knowledge to contribute to sport in the community.

2) Unless otherwise stated, students can book places by either visiting or calling the Indoor Athletics Centre between the hours of 9am – 5pm to complete full payment for the courses you wish to attend.

Available Courses – 2011/12

Athletics

Athletics Coach - Candidates will be able to plan a progressive training programme for athletes coaching a range of activities to prepare the developing athlete to run, jump and throw. When qualified you will be insured to coach without supervision.

To attend you must be qualified at either UKA level 1 or above, or Coaching Assistant in the new coach education programme.


Dates: 5th - 6th November 2011, 10th December 2011, and 3rd March 2012 (assessment day)
Venue: Brunel Sports Pavilion & Outdoor Track Cost: £365 (Legacy Funding Available)


Basketball

Level 1 - This is the basic level of coaching qualification for those who wish to commit to coaching basketball. The course provides each candidate with the basic knowledge of basketball and coaching skills, and will enable the holder to assist a fully qualified Level 2 Coach.


Dates: 22nd October and 19th November 2011 Time: 9am – 5pm

Emergency First Aid

This course is ideal for smaller workplaces that present few health and safety risks, where a nominated or appointed person is required to take charge in the event of an illness or accident. You will learn basic life saving first aid and workplace health and safety regulations.

Gym Instructor

This qualification provides access onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2. Successful candidates will be qualified to work for an employer as a gym instructor.

Dates: 21st – 23rd May, and 8th June 2012 Time: 9am – 5pm

Football

Level 1 Coach - The first step towards becoming a recognised football coach. The certificate qualifies you to coach grass roots club teams for children and young people under the supervision of a qualified football coach.

Practical Dates: 30th October and 6th and 13th November 2011 Time: 9am – 5pm

Theory Dates: 1st and 8th November 2011 Time: 6pm – 9pm
Venue: Brunel Sports Pavilion Cost: £120

Handball

Level 1 Coach - The Level 1 course will teach candidates to understand the skills necessary to introduce handball to complete beginners. No previous Handball experience necessary.


Dates: 11th February 2012 Time: 10am – 4pm

Personal Trainer

This qualification provides access onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 3. Successful candidates can work as a self employed personal trainer or be employed as a personal trainer in a club.

Dates: 28th – 30th May, and 24th August 2012 Time: 9am – 5pm

Rugby

Rugby Ready and Level 1 Coach - Rugby Ready teaches the importance of sufficient preparation for training and playing in order for Rugby to be played and enjoyed while reducing the risk of serious injury, whilst the Level 1 coach prepares you to deliver aspects of coaching sessions under direction.


Rugby Ready Dates: 15th November 2011 Time: 6.30 – 10.30pm

Level 1 Dates: 20th and 27th November Time: 9am – 5pm
Venue: Brunel Sports Pavilion Cost: £123.50

Tennis

Level 1 Coach - The course is the starting point for people who want to get involved in tennis. It is aimed at people who are enthusiastic about tennis, want to help their coach deliver Aegon Mini Tennis.


Dates: 14th January, 21st January and 18th February 2011 Time: 9am – 5pm

Typhoo Disability Sports for All

This course is designed to give coaches of all sports the ideas and inspiration to adapt their sessions to make them more accessible for disabled participants.

Mayors Legacy Funding

Courses with ‘Legacy Funding Available’ offer a potential discount of up to 75% when the applicant commits to completing voluntary hours in any London borough. First you must identify an opportunity to volunteer in the relevant sport after you have achieved your qualification, and a person who can verify you will complete these hours.
