Sports Pavillion

Brunel University’s brand new sports pavilion was officially opened on the 10th February by Professor Chris Jenks, University Vice Chancellor. Accompanied by Stewart Lucas, Chief Executive of Interactive who represented sport for disabled people in London, they both focused on the important role Brunel were playing to make provisions for those with disabilities at the University.

The £1.2million refurbished Sports Pavilion has brought the building up to date with all DDA requirements, including an internal lift and induction loop and dedicated changing facilties. The new changing rooms on the first floor have their showers integral to the room, which makes them ideal for team changing, whilst the ground floor offers further team changing room and unisex toilets. Vending and catering services are available on request and the premises are licensed to service alcohol.

Social space has been created which is located on the ground floor adjacent to the outdoor patio. A large function room is available for hire on the first floor, with full AV requirements and seating for 40 people.

The successful opening was masterminded by a combination of Brunel Sport working closely with the events and catering team, who together helped plan the proceeding cere-mony. Held partly in the new teaching space, the morning schedule included meeting and networking opportunities for guests like sports scholar Jack Pegram, who was keen to test our new facility. Amongst others, Jack was impressed with the new building and suggested he might try his hand at an additional sport such as tennis in conjunction with his specialist sport of table tennis. It is hoped that continued investments in facilities like these will help improve participation in sports irrespective of ability.
