Brunel Weightlifting claim title
English Weightlifting Championship Report
Brunel Weightlifting Club - One of our smallest, but carries a lot of weight!
Most people well know, great things come from small beginnings, here at Brunel Sport we share that sentiment.
The Brunel Weightlifting Club doesn’t boast large numbers, so we felt extremely proud when the English Championship title was awarded to a member of the Brunel weightlifting Club. The Championships were held at Lillieshall National Sports Centre on 16th February where the Sport and Exercise Psychology Postgraduate student Nicola Hobbs, was victorious in the 48 kilo class. Mike Pearman, who has been coaching students since the club was established in 2009, guided Nicola through her training this year, and witnessed her lifts of 44kg in the Snatch and 53kg in the clean and jerk for the title.
Sport Scholar Lewis Ridett who is a first year Sport Sciences student competed in the open age group category. “I came 5th with a PB snatch of 103kg, and a clean and jerk of 127kg, giving me a 230kg total, an improvement by 7kg. Lewis’s performance now ranks him 5th overall in England in the 77kg bodyweight class. But more importantly gives him the British Senior Championships qualifying total.
Next up for the club will be the British Universities and College Championship held at Sheffield in March.
