The maintenance of genome integrity is extremely important for both the development and the survival of an organism and mitosis (cell division) plays a crucial role in this process.  To date most of the research on mitosis has focussed on understanding the molecular pathways necessary for faithful chromosome segregation in early mitosis but much less in know about the regulation of mitotic exit. My group is interested in understanding the molecular basis of the coordination between chromosome structure/dynamics in mitotic exit and the reformation of a functional G1 nucleus. We are particularly interested in chromatin-associated protein phosphatases and their role in regulating post-mitotic events.
